New member and soon to be Tuono owner

Hi from sunny New Zealand close to Mount Cleese.

I have put my deposit down on a new MY2018 Tuono 1100 RSV4 Factory and hope to take ownership of my new bike this weekend if the bike ships to the dealer quickly enough. This will be my first V4 ever and first 4 cylinder bike for 17 years. Previously I owned 2 x 2001 RSVR Mille; first died after 14 hours of ownership taking on a tractor, the other lasted 10 years and was shipped to NZ and then back to the UK before I parted with it to buy my air tickets back to NZ.

Since then I've been "slumming" on a Suzuki DL650, a capable all round bike, but not a bike that screams "ride me! ride me!" every time I see it or go in the garage. Having said that it works well on gravel roads and I doubt I would take the Tuono along 90 mile beach for a ride.

The competition for the Tuono was a KTM Super Duke R (I don't have enough money for both) but a Tuono with an Akro slip on, quickshifter (up and down), and intuitive engine mode and traction control layout $1500 cheaper was key...as well as it being an Aprilia I didn't realise that the KTM engine mode drops the power down rather than just change the delivery for rain mode, nor have adjustable preload on the front forks until going through the fine details comparing them.

Looking forward to learning from fellow owners and sharing experiences etc.

Are they Welsh? The ratio of people to sheep in NZ is now down to 5 to 1 so they are playing hard to get these days (so I'm told).

5 to 1 eh, that's the sort of odds I like
Welcome aboard, by the way I don't see anything wrong with chucking a knobbly tyre on the back and hitting the beach

I'd go for the longer route, but be aware that you will probably suffer from face ache with all the grinning

I took my RSVR on a gravel road once (Whangamomona to Te Kuiti) and I ripped a hole in my Pirelli rear; clearly should have put a knobbly on. Where were you to give that advice then Sheep?

Why are you wasting time posting on here when you have a poorly T to attend to?

Well I am now officially a Tuono owner. Sadly the weather over Rimutaka Hill was a little moist. Not the best weather to learn a new bike and scrub in new tyres that aren't that Brill in the wet.

Best unexpected grin factor was the lovely "pop" when you just open the throttle and use the quickshifter to go up the gears. So here is a wee picture of Monica.

Most embarrassing moment was realizing the little "sold" sticker was still on my screen when I stopped to fuel up.

Today I got better acquainted with Monica and read the hand book to her. .. later I went out for a wee ride to a place called Pohangina. It was a nice ride and I thought I'd continue and take the long way back. I'm just chugging along at 80kmh and the the road surface ahead changes from grey to a lighter.....bugger! Gravel!

I thought it might be a road repair or top dressing but after 5 kms of beautiful tight twisty uphill and downhill gravel I turned round and went back. The bike was unfazed and handled the gravel without a problem, even in 1st. I had traction control at 6 but never felt it cutting in, nor the rear abs cutting in.

I then got back to tarmac and headed up a nice twisty road out of one valley and over into another.

Ah well a good excuse to wash the bike down
