    Old Fashioned Copper

4 friends and me went out for a spin yesterday evening to loomies café, any how, coming home i'm in front doing about 90 on the hogs back (near Guildford) when I catch up a black 3 series bmw that switches on hidden blue lights, Sod it. Policeman slows right down but motions me to pull up next to drivers side window. So at about 40mph he shouts at me to just calm it down and enjoy my evening, I gave him a thumbs up, he gave one back and that was it. Top bloke (unlike my mates who all fucked off up the services slip road and left me to it top gear style.

There are some decent cops out there, I;ve come across a couple of bike cops in Durham who were the same.

I got pulled after loomies on the m3 doing 140, got let off with exceeding 70 , think because I was calm and polite . Oh! it was an unmarked Octavia thing and I overtook him, thought I was in the shite that day , they also said my lane discipline was good, God I was lucky !

Well that deffo won't be the response you will get around my neck of the woods they did a record 125,000 people for speeding compared to 12,000 in Wiltshire next door last year

    Hmm... interesting to hear!

General traffic cops, with hairdryers (hand held speed detectors) and radar detector vans are out to get us for sure! The unmarked police cars are often more specialised and trained for high speed pursuit, etc. So... maybe, the good guys reported here
    a) recognised there is nothing inherently unsafe in going fast, where road conditions permit, and
    b) they had real policing matters to focus on!!

That said, if motorcyclists go on an advanced motorcyclist rider course, run by the police, you will be told to run at 100mph along the fossway, provided you are comfortable doing so. Fact is, police rider training allows riders to break the speed limit. In my view, that is sensible and good sense. But apart from these exceptions, the nanny state still seems to be taking over...

Same thing happened to me this morning. ''Cruising" down A34 south of Oxford on dual carriageway, with hardly a car in sight, when I suddenly heard a siren. Thought for a moment it was on the bridge over my head, then seemed to be coming from my bike!! Weird! The Bike Cop must have been sitting in my blind spot, as he didn't appear in either mirror. Then he pulls to my left and gestures for me to slow down before he headed down next slip road with lights still flashing. Obviously had more serious matters to attend to! Which was a relief, as yours truly was a risk to nothing and no one!
