    New bike, hot start problem

Took the new V4 out today. Quick lunchtime run to Ardgour, 14 miles. Had a drink, went to start the bike and it wouldn't start. I'd read about the hot start problems, so immediately assumed it was that. Left it for 15 mins, still wouldn't start. Had to get a jump start. Rode it back, stopped it, and tried again, dead. I've got the battery out, and it's on an optimiser. Looking into beefing up the earth connection as suggested elsewhere. Dealer said he had replaced one other bike's starter motor last year. I can't believe this hot start thing is still going on, starting to wish I had my old gen 2 back, it never let me down. Anyone else manage to fix this with just the earth cable upgrade?

It's too early to have a hot start issue and i think in Scotland the temperatures are not too high.
If your battery has proper load ratings (check the amperage with a multimeter) look for a problem with the wiring contacts on the battery ,maybe an electrical leakage from the alarm system or bad contact in the stand-gearbox switch sensor.
Anyway I think it was probably a coincidence and you must not worry about the reliability of the T- V4
    .....good luck..

Doesn't sound like hot start. It sounds like either your battery is fubar or your charging system is not working correctly.

Stator burning out is another known issue I'm afraid.

I know cos I just changed mine two weeks ago.

jump start it and measure the voltage at the battery on tickover and at 5k rpm.

When my stator fired itself I was only getting 12.2v at tickover and 12.3v at 5k.

With new stator, regulator / rectifier installed I get 14.5v at tickover.

Mine was a new 12, I was suffering HSI too, battery was 3 yrs old when I bought it new anyway so I swapped it out and fitted a volt meter, least now I know when my stator is fried.

Voltages are OK, 14.3 @ 4000 rpm. Left it on an Optimate 4 and it seems OK, but I still don't trust it. Will have to do a few trips over the ferry to gain confidence in it again.

    That's a good output.

    Must be battery then.

I called the dealer, and he's sending up a new battery. Great service from Mo-Tech.
