Just changed over from 15/40 to 15/42; makes loads of difference to the feel of the bike, more urgent in every gear, well worth doing.

Higher gearing makes it easier to ride round / through towns too... . The original gearing probably only makes sense for high spreed German autobahn cruisers or fast track racers...

P/D........ It's lower gearing for better town /acceleration ,.higher gearing for auto hand motorways etc

Thanks Snowman. Thought that might be wrong way round when I hit send, but too late to think straight! So... lower gearing moving from 15/40 to 15/42 or even 15/44 (for Gen 2), hence better round town.

I changed my Gen 1 from 17/42 STD to 16/44, which means the bike is now actually ridable round town, as well as pulls even stronger... but still up to insane unfaired speeds.

Yes I think even with the 15/44 top speed will be good not that it's able to withstand very high speed for long with our roads and the wind , helmet pressed against your face etc

    Good stuff

How do you find it at higher speeds though? Is it revving much more at 70-80mph?

I may consider going 15/42 from 15/40 when I need a new chain , which may be a while yet ive only adjusted the chain twice in 3 year / 8000 miles of abuse.

Good man Snowman be good to see some good comparison figures ,---- speed/ rpm .cruising speed . flexibility . etc etc . not worried about fuel consumtion changes , I give that sort of thing no consideration at all .

go for a DID type breaker. brilliant , but use an angle grinder to cut the old chain off !!!
